Gail Cochrane

B. Gail Cochrane is retired from Northrop Grumman where she worked as a senior computer systems engineer and program manager for over 20 years. In preparation for retirement, she began taking art classes at the Corcoran School of Art in Washington, D.C. and the Alexandria Art League School, Torpedo Factory, Alexandria, VA. She was privileged to study under artists such as Robert (Rob) Liberace, Susan Abbott, Richard (Rick) Weaver, Bill Christenberry, and Natasha Mokino while living in the Washington, D.C. area. Additionally, she has studied at Studio Incamminati, Philadelphia, PA which was founded by Nelson Shanks; La Romita School of Art, Terni, Umbria, Italy; and The Academy of Art, St. Petersburg, Russia. Gail has also been fortunate to have traveled with artists to Greece, Ireland, France, England, and India as well as sites within the United States. Gail is a “Museum Junkie” and feels fortunate to have visited art museums throughout her travels.

The style of my paintings is Abstract Realism which presents beauty in classical clarity comfortably understood by all viewers while abstracting elements within the painting such as light, edges, sprinkled with impressionist touches within the painting. My intent is to engage the viewer to interpret the painting that entice feelings of pleasure. The techniques of this humanistic style have evolved over centuries as great masters, such as Michelangelo, Velasquez, Rembrandt, Corot, Sargent, etc. built upon the wisdom of others who came before them. I have been privileged to study with internationally recognized artists such as Robert Liberace at schools in the United States, Europe, and India. It has also been my pleasure to spend a great amount of time in acclaimed art museums such as the Washington, DC where we lived for 25 years as well as Europe and India. A highlight of my studies studying at the Russian Academy in St. Petersburg, Russia where I spent days visiting the Hermitage and other outstanding museums.
