Sharon Grimes

Sharon Grimes, of Longview, TX is a self-taught con­tem­po­rary abstract artist whose art is a per­son­al expres­sion of life, with all of its tex­tures and lay­ers. Inspired by nature and the uni­verse, her work typ­i­cal­ly fea­tures vivid col­ors and vibrant ener­gy and is con­sis­tent­ly char­ac­ter­ized by strong com­po­si­tion, con­trast, and tex­ture which demon­strates her remark­able under­stand­ing of col­or and com­po­si­tion. Sharon first became inter­est­ed in art at a young age. She grew up lov­ing to sketch peo­ple, ani­mals, and her sur­round­ings. In her ear­ly twen­ties, her pas­sion for art blos­somed as she was inspired by the many gal­leries and muse­ums she fre­quent­ed in Lon­don while liv­ing abroad for a year.

Grimes was a 2014 Hunt­ing Art Prize final­ist. Her work has been described by Sara Eye­stone, artist, writer and cura­tor La Posa­da de Sante Fe Hotel and Spa as a “feast for the eyes”. Grimes paint­ings have been exhib­it­ed in group exhi­bi­tions includ­ing the East Texas Region­al Art Exhib­it at Longview Muse­um of Fine Arts, P’s Gallery Region­al Art Exhib­it, Tyler Muse­um of Art and  solo exhibits at Clas­sics Fur­ni­ture and Interiors,Texarkana Region­al Arts and Human­i­ties Council,Elm Street Stu­dio of Keller and Longview Muse­um of Fine Art. Her art is also exhib­it­ed in pub­lic col­lec­tions includ­ing Tyler Street Bistro, Regions Bank, Longview Muse­um of Fine Arts and The Women’s Cen­ter of East Texas.Her work is in many pri­vate col­lec­tions through­out the Unit­ed States and has been fea­tured in Piney Woods Live Mag­a­zine, South­lake Arts, Four States Mag­a­zine, Texarkana Gazette and Longview News-Jour­nal.
Sharon Grimes has stud­ied with renown artist Xian­ng Zhang, William Kalwick,  Jane E Jones and more recent­ly Cheryl McClure of Over­ton, TX and Cody Hoop­er of Albu­querque, NM.

Her tal­ent and love of art have led her to direct and con­duct cours­es on the sub­ject of Art as Med­i­ta­tion. She has also been com­mis­sioned by First Luther­an Church of Longview, TX to paint  “Spir­i­tu­al Col­lec­tion” which still hangs in the church today. She cre­at­ed a col­lage for the Evan­gel­i­cal Luther­an Church of Sier­ra Leone, Africa as a com­mem­o­ra­tion of the vic­tims of civ­il unrest. She has exhib­it­ed for sev­er­al local art groups and taught at the Longview Muse­um of Fine Arts sum­mer pro­grams. She is a mem­ber of South­west­ern Soci­ety of Water­col­or Artist.
